TAG RUGBY Ballyshannon Blitz

TAG RUGBY Ballyshannon Blitz

The lakeside, home to Ballyshannon rugby club was the venue for the tag rugby blitz of Ballyshannon, Four schools were involved, Holy Family National School, Scoil Catriona National school, Pettigo National School and Robertson National School. Each team of excited kids were amazing in both their skill and sportsmanship in the game of rugby.
The blitz was a great success, with some wonderful team and individual tries throughout the day

A big thank you to all who were involved, lakeside centre, Ballyshannon rugby club and teachers from each school to make this day possible.

The first round of the Girl’s secondary schools cup

The schools competing were Rosses CS, Loreto Milford, Glenties Comprehensive and Magh Ene Bundoran. The games were all very keenly contested with some very good running rugby on display in overcast conditions.
The cup will be played over two legs so that every school is given the maximum participation on the day and also gives stronger and developing schools that chance to aim for Cup competition.
The first leg has set up a good standard which will hopefully carried over to the second leg which occurs on the 23rd of march.

Magh Ene will be keen to keep their heads and composure to retain the U15 Donegal Schools Cup Which they Won last year. Rosses CS. May have something to say about that though.Glenties showed great skill and composure through out the competition to finish on a high and loreto Milford cannot be counted out either putting in a great performance with the least amount of players in the first leg. A big acknowledgement must go to the second Magh Ene Team, Mostly beginners to the sport, who fought hard, it just goes to show rugby is turning into religion in the south of the county!

The schools have been involved in weekly training sessions supported by YDO’s Adam Keys, Phillip Brady and Jonathan Quigley from the Donegal Community Rugby Project.

The IRFU Ulster Branch would like to thank the Donegal Schools rugby committee for helping with the organisation of the blitzes, Letterkenny RFC for the use of the facilities at Dave Gallagher Park; Teachers, Carmel Egan, John Reilly, Tonia Kiely, Dearbhla Fox, Referees, Jamie Boyle, Jarryd Bennett and Chris Blockley and YDO Adam Keys.
